47 C8 wiring question
-
OK So I'm still in the process of working out my wiring diagram for my 47 C8 sedan. On the firewall there's a plug with 6 prongs on it. I think I worked out what wires # 2-5 go to.... does anyone know what wire #1 and #6 go to ?????
The shop manual schematic is useless in this respect. Any other documentation anyone else has on this plug would be helpful. -
Hi Aaron, #1 goes to the battery terminal on the voltage regulator, #6 goes goes to terminal #6 on the O.D. solenoid, #3 goes to term. #3 on the solenoid, #2 goes to thedistributor side of the coil #4 goes to term. #4 on the solenoid, #5 goes to the control switch I think on a 41 the control switch is on the lockout cable right behind the dashboard. This is out of the Motors Auto Wiring Diagram manual, 1954 edition. I guess you've already figured out that the socket plugs into the O.D. relay.

Thank you for looking that up. I'm not 100% sure that's right because the plug in question has wires that go into the dash panel wiring. I have a 2nd 4 prong plug on the firewall that comes from the transmission and goes to the drive Master setup. The car does have overdrive as well though. It may be you're correct... just what I was able to trace so far seems different. The car did not originally have overdrive, only drive-master.

O.K. Aaron, here's what my manual shows for the 4 prong plug/socket;#1 on the body harness blk/wh wire goes to the ctr term on the D.M. switch ( on the dash) and to term #1 on the C.V.C. cylinder on the chassis harness. #2 red/blk wire goes to the starter switch, not the side that goes to the starter sol. body harness, and to #10 on the 10 wire connector, chassis harness. #3 goes to, body harness, goes to the load side of the circuit breaker, brn/blk wire, and to #9 on the 10 wire connector, chassis harness. #4 goes to right hand term, looking at the back, of the drivemaster switch, body harness, black wire, and to term. #8 on the 10 wire connector. Hope this helps you out. If you have a fax, let me have the number and I'll fax you a copy of the diagram.

Thank you a bunch! I can recieve a fax but I'd have to set it up. I'll be in touch.

Well if that's correct then I'm missing a 3rd plug/connector for the overdrive. I have the 4 prong connector for the drive-master and I assume that's all just fine I traced it. I still then do not know what the other 6 prong (main harness)connector for the instrument panel goes to under the hood. I traced everything I could identify under the dash. It's only prong #1 and #6 I could not identify. The colors are mostly faded and the under-hood part of it got cut off somewhere and most of it was covered with oil/grease anyways. It's electrical archeology at this point. HMCC shop manual was no help...they were too busy with the war to care I guess. There is no other body manual that I know of. -
Thank you for taking the time to post a picture of the harness. I think I've got the drivemaster harness figured out now. I don't know what the Overdrive harness looks like or what everything on the main harness goes to (esp prong #1 and #6.
My diagram for the overdrive is probably better though. I crawled under the car today and seemed that there was a wire hooked to the speed govenor on the OD but no wires hooked to the overdrive solenoid and that solenoid has 4 terminals on it.
