I just acquired a Hudson Hydraulic bumper jack. Does anyone have a source for the decal? Mine is barely readable.

Pau Schuster has them. There are two types pre-step down with the round Hudson logo and step down version with the rectangular Hudson logo

No handle came with it. A junk yard dog saw my 47 Htruck in town, and said he had one and would bring it to me, which he did. Robber wanted $5 for it.

I do have a friend who I'm pretty sure has one, as he has a 54H and his place is a picker's paradise. I'll see if his has a handle and get the info for us.

I would like to see a photo also. I got a hydraulic type bumper jack from my grandfather's farm shed when they were moving out some years ago. You turn the round top section to shut the valve and and pump this top section up and down to raise. Then to let it down you undo to release the pressure.
I have no idea what it is from. I know he did have a Ford Mercury in the 40s and other English Fords over the years. It would be interesting to find out its origin.

OK, here's a pic. You can just see the release valve on the other sied between the cylinder and pump rod. The handle hole is 9/16. Looks like a half-inch rod would do the trick. If RB has one I'll get a pic and dimensions.

This looks like the decal is rectangular but the logo is round. Pre-stepdown. I'll let PAULARGETYPE figger it out.

From what I have been told, the jack uses the handle from the standard jack that comes with the car. I also have been told that there is a difference in the hook between the step down era and pre step down.

I have four jacks and they are all pre step down. I'm not sure what the difference is in the hook.

Just talked with RB. His handle is just a piece of pipe with a slot cut in the end to actuate the valve. 1/4 in pipe is .540 OD so should fit nicely into the 9/16 (.562) jack hole. He estimates 15 in long.

I tried a few of my standard jack-handles and most of them although a little tight, would work.

here are some pics of one I've had for over 40 years. It's handle is thick wall tubeing exactly 12 inches long. painted the same color as the jack.. Must be "Hudson Corporate Blue"..No slot in the end to use on the valve. I am fairly certain that it's original. I know now that it is Pre stepdown.

Those look like monsters! Are these the jacks that really came with the car when new? If so, I should find one. I have some of the 'U'-shaped lug wrenches, but no jacks.

My understanding is that they were optional from the dealer. I would imagine a dealer would have sold one with a pre-stepdown decal in 1948 until stocks were depleted.... I don't see any mechanical difference in them. Has anyone seen a different "jacking hook"? All the ones I have seen are the same as the ones I see here.

I went to the dealer for mine. It was the early logo but he didn't say that there was any problem for a stepdown but how much can you trust a used car salesman. I have seen variations in the construction, some have a smooth base plate (mine does) and some are waffled on the bottom. also some have a yoke the guidance of the bar where the hook mounts and others don't. Any that I have seen have had the early logo.

yes... I do remember one I had that had a "yoke" to help guide it. it was pretty beat up and had a few bends in it. Probably used on a farm or a truck..
I looked up the jack in the 48-54 Parts book and It is listed as an assembly...PN 307195. There is reference to a
"clip" that was furnished on 54 cars with a continental spare tire.. Any idea what that looks like?
