Fuel Injection on a '308'?
-
Anyone heard of this being done?
I understand that Clifford Performance has 'kits' for this type of thing... I don't recall having seen any threads on doing something like this, but may be mistaken. (It is said a person's memory is the second thing to 'go' with age, can't remember what the first item was...:rolleyes: ). -
There was a thread or 2 on the main forum I searched on "fuel injection" and this thread in particular had some cool responses...46HudsonPU wrote:Anyone heard of this being done?

Thanks! Very interesting reading...rambos_ride wrote:There was a thread or 2 on the main forum I searched on "fuel injection" and this thread in particular had some cool responses...

Sent an inquiry to Clifford Performance on this, and they responded pretty quickly:
- They have different level of kits for this, the most basic (and the recommended) being the TBI ($1,995).
- Of the various Hudson engines, they recommend using the '308'. If using one of their kits, they also recommend:
* Their intake manifold ($289);
* Their dual exhaust headers (I am told they are working on an updated version of this)($299);
* Their performance CAM ($199)
With their TBI kit, intake, exhaust, cam and other bits & pieces - the bill for parts alone will easily run over $3K. That doesn't include any other upgrades that may be required with the EFI or dual headers, such as -
- Fuel system upgrade (lines, pump, tank);
- Exhaust pipes & mufflers (glasspacks would have a nice sweet sound :cool: );
- As long as you are in the neighborhood - put in electronic ignition as well...
And, should you eventually want to 'kick it up a a notch or two - You could always put on a nice supercharger... -
Question you have to ask at the end of all that money and work is what bang for your buck do you get. We talking 2-5% power boost? I have Twin H and Clifford header on my 51 Hornet. Starts every time goes like stink. I have to wonder is it worth it. 3K get you another car to work on.

Yep, my thoughts as well when I was doing the math - not that I have a 308 to modify or a Stepdown to put one into...51hornetA wrote:Question you have to ask at the end of all that money and work is what bang for your buck do you get. Not sure what type of performance that one would get from these changes, not sure that even Clifford Performance would be able to tell you. Might be interesting to find out, but to what end? -
While your at it you have to do a 12V conversion to run the Clifford kit and upgrade the ignition to HEI but thats only a little thing.www.hudsonmotorcar.org

There Was a guy around here that was attempting to adapt an oldsmobile turbocharger on a 308, not sure how or why but i'm trying to find more out about it......Hmmmmm

Personally, I like the basic idea/concept of 'enhancing' the flow of air into the fuel mixture (i.e., turbocharging or supercharging).davidh wrote:There Was a guy around here that was attempting to adapt an oldsmobile turbocharger on a 308, not sure how or why but i'm trying to find more out about it......Hmmmmm
I have never been too thrilled with the exhaust 'plumbing reroute' that is required for turbocharging. No matter how well it is planned & done, you are still 'stifiling' the engine to some extent (i.e., restricting & degrading the flow of exhaust gasses). While it is more than 'made up' by a significant increase in performance, it is still there.
Supercharging is the 'way to go' in my opinion. While it is also contingent upon the engine, there is no 'trade-off' or compromise in the functionality of the powerplant itself - it is usually powered by some 'hefty' belts & pulleys. -
What about the Moon Eyes system. ok maybe not a true fuel injection but bolt on the phoney carbs and a few sensors and there you go. A lot cheaper than 3k.
