looking for a web place to hang out, bounce off ideas etc...

me... I love custom stuff, raced Jeeps, then ATV's could never leave anything stock... got a couple machinist buddys than enable my fetish to modify...

new to me car this year... 1938 Nash Lafayette trunk back sedan... parked in 1950 ( never seen road salt ) only 36,000 original miles... too nice to mess with... er well... much anyway

I popped of the year specific hub caps before even loading it on the trailer... & have since replaced the new last year stock tires with a set of Ansen Sprint aluminum slots & a set of Goodyear blackwall radials... making custom tube polished stainless front & rear bumpers right now ( will save all the bolt on stock parts )... had the seats reupolstered ( & mouse nests removed ) even though all but the bottom of the front seat were perfect ( except for the mouse nests inside ) figured the old fabric would wear fast, & as it was, could be used as patterns, so original stitch patterns were duplicated

trying to keep as much stock looking as my "nature" will allow, while replacing a few bolt on parts to make it a bit more "edgy" looking

wanting to keep the original flathead six, but since I don't have the OD tranny, will probably swap a T-5 5 speed behind the original six next winter... for a little more driveability

anyone here of a similar mindset around here ???

    Welcome to the Classiccar Forums!

There are a couple other forums I know of, out on the Web:
The Allpar forum for Nash, AMC, Hudson, etc.: http://www.allpar.com/forums/forum/61-amc-·-eagle-· hudson-·-nash-·-rambler-·-willys/

Then, there is an AACA forum for AMC / Nash / Rambler, at http://forums.aaca.org/f157/

Hemmings has an "independents" forum at https://forums.hemmings.com/index.php?p=/categories/independents

As you probably know by now, there is a Nash club, and it may be worth your while to join that, to possibly make contact with fellow owners.

You might discover that there is a high-speed gear set that could be transplanted in the rear end, to make your car go faster. That would avoid the expense of a transmission transplant. Or possibly you can find someone with a spare OD transmission (maybe a later Nash transmission will drop right in there). Or, a complete rear axle from another make, with better gearing, can be purchased from a junkyard and retro-fitted to your car -- again, cheaper and quicker than trying to fit a newer transmission.
