Love the warbirds. My neighbor just returned from your side of the world where he
flew his new Mercedes-powered Albatros DVa seen in the beginning of this clip from the
Classic Fighters Omaka airshow over Easter weekend.

The old war birds in the fields of southwest America have been picked over so much that bringing one back would be too costly. The good thing is that there are quite a few that have been brought back and they travel about and have shows every so often. They make a great match with a car show and I have been to a few.

Unlike Alex, my military career started with the F-100 and ended with the F-16--all jets.... Prop jobs are great and I love them. As they fly overhead I can identify about half of the engines. They gather at our local Air Force Base a few times each year.

Here is a photo at my first base in Myrtle Beach taken in the early 60's...

Thanks a lot Brownie - can I help it if I worked on R4D's (C-47, DC-3) in the 50's that were my age!!!! LOL There were a few bent wing birds (F4U's) in there at the time too.

The short stint I did with Coast Guard aviation I worked mainly on the HU16 amphibians and HH-52 helicopters. This was in the 60's.

But I did work on jets too - mainly the F2H-3 and F2H-4 Banshee's and F9F-8T trainers (2 seat inline).

What a small world Alex, I was a crew member (rescue and Recovery) on the HH43's. Not the same as the HH52 but close. After I completed my active duty I became a weekend warrior and really had the best of both the military and aerospace world. I have now retired from both...

At our near-by Hill Air Force Base we have quite a large collection of War Birds all the way from the big boys down to the small cub's. My expertise is more into the written word so when I volunteer to help out I become a Historian. I also assist in the annual car show that they have for charity. It is quite a bit of fun.

    Byron here (newbie):
New to Hudsons, but these warbirds put a flutter in my heart. I have the privilege to own one of the very few certified 'Civilian Warbirds' in the states. This old bird was impressed into the C.A.P. (hence the emblem) during WWll, and flew Sub-Patrol off of the Louisiana coast. I have log's showing patrols and bombing practice, and the bomb release is still between the front seats. There were 53 YKC's built and 3 are still flying. I have around 1000 hours in her over a span of a quarter century. The old girl can be seen at this URL (http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1037109/). I can really piss of some of the Mustang pilots, because I can tie down next to them, and I'll have more people standing around my old 'warbird' than theirs. Love it.....Byron

Had a chance to see "Bell" a few times. What a great ride. It is sad that we are loosing our War Birds and the men that flew them. It is a sad day...
