Starter-Generator Conversion for old cars

My search is for either plans to convert a generator to be a starter-generator or find out if there are starter-generators that exist that would crank a Hudson (or any engine) 6 or 8 cylinder engine via the generator belt drive. Porsche has a stop/start system, but, I do not know anything about how it works. It would be so much fun to have a silent start again. My starter is in need of repair and thus now would be a great time to lose the 20+ pounds of the starter and have a smooth and quiet start up of the engine.
