Hope any Hudson folks in New Zeland are alright.

Judy and I are including everyone in New Zealand in our prayers. I'm glad that I have never been through anything like that......I HOPE I never do.
Remember to ask God tonight, to protect those affected by this terrible tragedy!
Bob and Judy Hickson -
I am in Christchurch airport at the moment waiting for my flight to get home. On Monday when the quake struck, I was in Timaru (2 hours south) and the jolts and rolling was severe there so I was so glad that I was not in the city. There were about half a dozen or so aftershocks during last night which I did not feel unlike many others.
This is a real tragedy for of the people of NZ - the lost lives and the devistation of the city centre in our second largest city. The emergency services have done a great job and support is coming from Australia and other countries.
Driving to the airport just now there is a lot of traffic heading out of town to get away from it all - there are areas of Christchurch with no water, power or sewage services. Our club secretary (who lives in the city) said this morning that they had lost their chimney and lots of stuff went off the shelves. They are trying to contact other HET club members to check on them but there are a few she cannot make contact with just yet.
Sadly, a staff member of our company in Ashburton lost his father-in-law who was killed in a collapsed building in Christchurch.
I am certain everyone here in NZ will appreciate the thoughts and concern of all fellow Hudsonites.
Thanks to all

We are thinking of you Alistair, and hoping all our HET friends in NZ are OK. Please keep us posted.
Gene.

This whole tragedy is magnified by New Zealand having such a small population that most NZers know someone who has suffered in this latest earthquake. But we will all pull together & help each other & we'll be stronger for having had the experience.
Thank you for thinking of us.Dave Y

From an ex HET Club President & his HET Club secretary wife (in Christchurch - earthquake epicentre):
Hi David, As far as we know all HET members are OK - we just haven't been able to contact Andrea and Gilbert, their phone seems to be out - don't know her cell phone number. Only hope they are OK. In area hit by liquefaction again. We saw them Monday night when me met Alistair to have a meal while he was down here. We were lucky again, only lost our chimney, fell outwards, onto Graeme's parts shed. Graeme fixed the roof. Chimney not used, we have heat pump in room. The guy next door thought he should perhaps take down his chimney - it was dismantled today. Things fell off shelves, etc, but we didn't have damage in kitchen and pantry area like some. We went up to our daughter's house in Sefton tonight and had a meal with them and used their shower. Otherwise we have everything we need at present, just went and stocked up with some cat food on the way home. Thanks for your concern, appreciated. Regards, Kay and GraemeDave Y

To all you guys in Christchurch, all the people up (Auckland) here have you in our deepest thoughts and are wishing you all to be safe, we are a country that will band together and move on to a better brighter place in our lives
Mike -
Thanks, David. All HET folk are safe as far as we know - have been in contact with most. We saw Mallards [HUDDY 8] today, they had no phone as they had no power, and Andrea rang yesterday. Their house is quite badly damaged, and they have no phone, water, power. But they are safe, that's the main thing. Cheers, KayDave Y

One thing for all to remember- in case of a disaster, call your loved ones and families as soon as possible, to let them know you're all right.
When Mt. St. Helens blew in 1980, we lived about 20 miles from the mountain, "as the crow flies". We got a little bit of ash, but that was about it. About 4 days later, my wife's favorite uncle called, from about 100 miles north, frantic- they had been trying to get through on the phone (phone system was fouled up), could envision death and devastation, etc. Turns out that they heard a huge "boom" up there, that we didn't hear- and the news coverage always shows the worst, of course. It hadn't even occurred to us to call. Felt bad about that.
