Introduction and Chroming
-
Hey guys,
First let me apologize if I am breaking protocol here as I looked for forum rules but could not find any.
The main reason for my post is to introduce myself. My name is Brandon and I run a coatings company in North Carolina. We do a lot of performance coatings, but we specialize in re-chroming automotive parts in a unique way. True chroming processes are some of the most dangerous process in the world. Chemical baths are not only expensive to maintain, but hard to keep compliant with the EPA. We use a different process, whereby instead of Chromium we use pure silver.
This is a spray on chrome system but it is not your $5 a rattle can spray paint. This is a true basecoat, midcoat and urethane clear that is as hard and durable as a factory paint job on a car. This process is the same as what is used to create mirrors so you know it's reflective. As far as cost goes, we are a job shop that will price your part according to size and color finish that you are looking for. Typically I tell people that if you want it chromed by us, it will cost somewhere between 2 and 3 times what it would cost to paint the same part. We can do regular chrome as well as black chrome, match any color chrome and even do metallic colored chrome such as copper, bronze, gold etc.
One of the main things that we help people with is re-chroming old pot metal. As I'm sure you guys know, good old pot pits and is virtually impossible to replace with original pieces. Your often forced to pay a machine shop tons of money to reproduce your piece. Well with our system, we can restore your old pot metal pieces, fix the pits and chrome them in any color chrome you would like. All for a fraction of the cost to replace it with a new machined piece.
I would be glad to answer any questions you guys have or just talk about great classic cars. I appreciate your time reading this and hope to hear from you guys soon. I'll post a couple of pictures of our sample pieces below so you can see for yourself how it looks.
