Hi- I decided it was time to flush the clutch on mt 50 Super Six. I went to a hardware store to get some Carbo-Sol (tricloroethane) and it is not available. What are we using now to flush our clutchs? Thanks. Norm:(

Norm, I have used a mix of acetone and lacquer thinners with success. Takes a bit longer, but gets rid of all the gunk. There is also a product available here called Brakleen, which is good at de-greasing brakes and dry clutches. Really cuts through the black coating that brakes get when they have had oil on them, so should work on glazed corks. Only comes in spray cans though, but would probably work.

I've still got a gall or so of "tricloroethane" if you need some here in NZ. We used to sell the stuff for degreasing Vacuum pumps & some found it's way home!!

Look for Sunnyside 'CARBOCHLOR' at the hardware store.

A mixture of Carbon Tet and Chlorothene

Don't flush the clutch down the toilet. The little corks will plug up the drain field.

Should we have a safety guy standing by with a fire extinguisher to cool things off if something hot happens? Is this stuff explosive? Just asking? Thanks, Bob

Not explosive but highly flammable. Use with care
