I rooted around the local NAPA store looking for a suitable substitute for the cowl vent drain tube on my 54...No Luck. Does anyone have a part number or know of a substitute for this tube?

Napa would not likely carry that these days. Most of what they have is re-inforced type of hose. What you want is simply thin-walled tubing, as there is no pressure in the drain hose. A pool supply, or better yet, medical supply house would have what you are looking for. I've even seen clear-type of tubing that would work just as well. Don't remember off of the top of my head, I.D. is 1/2"? . . . or 7/16"? Let me know and I'll see what I have here, or will check around.

I think it would help that is the molded and reinforced type and pretty substantial as it sits just above the engine and will be subject to the heat. Anything less would probably melt. I have the original one but it's pretty brittle and would like to replace it. It's 7/8 inside diameter.

A few years ago (10 - 15) you used to be able to buy molded heater hos short sections with a right angle turn on one end. I would not see any reason that would not work for you, but maybe by now those products are out of production. Certainly someone at a NAPA store would know.

Lowes carry many sizes of multi- purpose hose available by the foot. Some are thick AND appear to be resilient that may work. Its clear hose though...

I think this could be the ticket - 7/8" ID dishwasher outlet hose! Usually available in 6 ft. or 50 ft. lengths. Here's a link to a 6 ft. length on Amazon, but should be available almost everywhere:

I had similar difficulty :unsure: and finally found a suitable clear tube at ACE Hardware. The inner diameter was a bit small so I heated it with a light bulb and it slipped on. OD also fit nicely in the exit hole. Good luck,

How about a washing machine drain hose .One end has a 90 degree bebd in it. But don't know if it could be found streight or corrigated Like a rad hose with wire embedded in it. duncan

Studebaker used a 90 degree bent rubber tube on the larks from 62 to 66. Don't know what the ID is. It slips into the firewall. I'm reasonalbly sure Studebaker International has them. Phone# 317-462-3124.

I have the S.I. catalog, I'll take a look. I know that Hudson was not the only automobile manufacturer to ues a 7/8 hose with a 90 degree molded in it. I know I'll find one somewhere.

Hey John,
I have an extra that will clean up and I can get it to soften up a bit. It is in good shape, but has a scrape right on the 90 degree bend. If ya want it let know and I'll clean it up and send it to ya. If it does'nt look good enough for ya, pass it on to some one else. No charge.

I really appreciate the offer. I'm kind of on a mission to find a new replacement for the one I have. That in turn will give everyone a resource for the hose should they need one in the future. Don't throw yours away just yet though!
