Stepdown radio interchange
-
Can early model radios interchange with later models by just changing the face? A rather trashed radio came on the front floor of my 52, and I found a working radio for a 48(-50?). They look pretty similar to me except for the faces.Six in a row makes it GO!

You can change the faceplate of the '48 thru '50 radio to the one used on the '51 and '52 radio with the round push buttons. If the radio you have has the rectangular push buttons, there would be no substitute faceplate for it.Jerry

Watch how your radio mounts to the dash, 48 to 50 had 2 1/4" bolts thru thr front of the dash, 51 and early 52 had brackets that mounted to the front lip of the dash there were no bolts thru the front of the dash. Late 52 and up mounted with nuts on the control shaft bushings thru the front of the dash. All these were in addition to the bracket(s) at the rear of the radio case. Early 52 has gray pearl dial and late 52 has black pearl dial. Good luck. Steve
