Hornet Door rubber gaskets

My Hornet coupe has near-new rubber gaskets around the doors, installed by the P.O. Both doors leak air pitifully, which is a shame, since the rest of the car and cabin are whisper-quiet at cruise.
On inspection, I noted that the rubber at the vertical aft edge of the door is installed with the rigid side of the channel against the door jamb, leaving the open end facing outward toward the door, as shown in the picture below:

This arrangement seems to make sense to me, as it allows the edge that contacts the door to be more flexible, and presumably seal better.
However, the TOP piece of rubber is installed in a reverse way, with the hard edge of the rubber channel facing down, rather than the other way.
I can't help but think this may be contributing to my door sealing problem.
1) What is the correct way to install this rubber
2) The rubber on my doors seems more like some cheesy J.C. Whitney universal stuff, rather than something correctly designed for this car. Does anyone have any alternate sources of rubber that might do a better job of sealing around the door?
