4-Year Search is OOver!!
-
The RH taillight bucket pictured below ends a 4+ year search for hard parts for the convertible restoration. It represents the LAST piece I needed to find. The second pic shows the complete set. Even better yet, it's all NOS.
For those that don't know, these are early-'52 (first few hundred cars off of the line, from what I've been told). As a matter of fact, I was even told by many Hudson folks to not even bother the search, as they simply are not out there. But, as my convertible is a very early production model, I really wanted to incorporate this unique item. Really, the only thing I lack is glass taillight lenses (ones pictured are plastic). If anyone has any of those, please give me a ring or send me an e-mail.

Chronicles of my search for and adventures with my Hornet http://52hornet.blogspot.com -
From the 1948-1954 Master Parts catalog on my on-line web site ( hetclub.org/burr ) the following:
In 1952 Models a 1imited number of cars were equipped
with tail lamp Assemblies made by stamping; these use
a Glass lens. Cast Assemblies use a Plastic lens.

A lot of the time these finds are some of the more rewarding parts of our hobby. I think if it were easy everyone would have one....Brownie

-
I have never seen a GLASS tail lens, were they made? The plastic ones have the small flange versus the screw studs.

146601 - built in Feb. 1952. Production of 1952 models began in Nov. 1951

Glass was used pretty much on all cars prior to WWII and up into the late 40's, early 50's - plastics weren't really prevalent until after WWII.

Alex, I was refering ONLY to the very early 52s with the stainless rims
-
ALEX there were three different lenses used in the 52 production starting with the glass lenses then plastic NO SCREWS AND ONE WITH SCREWS

Right - as the info from the 1948-1954 Master Parts book said " a limited number of cars were equipped with................"

I remember stu coleman having many of these glass lenses at swap meets. I guess I know why they didn't sell
