I don't have a question, but needed to vent. I have spent the last 2 hours trying to find a Hudson part. I would have said I was 99.99% sure I knew where I put it 6 months ago, but I was obviously wrong. This is starting to happen way too often.......and it is annoying. I am starting to question if it ever made it home from the meet. I did find a couple other things I had forgotten about that I listed on Ebay (I guess I listed too low, since they sold in less than 5 minutes)....
That's all. I feel better now..:unsure:

Oh yea, the missing part is an NOS red grill emblem still in the original package. I am assembling the grill for the Hollywood tonight.

Found it! Only took 4 hours of my life that I'm not getting back........LOL. No wonder I never get anything done around here.

WOW!! That emblem is immaculate. I'm jealous! I found an NOS one some time ago I'm saving for the convertible, but there's a few flakes missing on the silver on the shield, but still looks real good. That one is really perfect. These are such nice pieces and really look good when the shield is lit up. Ah, the quality!

I used to go out to the garage and forget for a minute why. Now I go out there and not only forget why but I start doing something else altogether. After a while my wife looks in and asks why I haven't brought in food for the dog, or something. Let's see, Alzheimer's disease...I used to know what that was, I think, but I've forgotten. :lol:

I spend a good 1/2 day a month looking for parts that I have stashed in the garage for future projects. This aways turns up all sorts of other parts that I had totally forgotten about. I have actually been involved in a total garage re-organization! I'll let you know how it turns out! LOL

If you haven't mounted it yet, could you take a picture of the back side? I have two and they are different. On one the entire back side is coated with a light gray like a primer and the other does not have that coating. The one without the coating is original to the car and the other I think got on Ebay.

I have a very simple and efficient system, 3200 sq ft garage, shelving and cabinets.

I have the only key and am the only one in there.

That sucker is in there somewhere!!!

I am not the brightest light in the room, but on my 1950 the Hudson triangle is clear. When the light is on it shines on through?

The ones with the gray color inside were probably used for the lower priced cars that did not include the light in the center grill medalion - like later production '52 Pacemakers & Wasps of '53 & '54. Just a thought.

That was sort of my point - how can the light shine through the gray paint on the one in the picture. On the original one from my 1950, the triangle is painted white but the light still shines through. The light does not shine through the one I have with the gray paint on the back.

Maybe the "brightest light in the room" would shine through the gray paint?

That could be. Did some have lights and some not? I know my 1950 Pacemaker was lighted but I don't know about any others. According to the master parts catalog, the 1948 and 1949's used the same one but the 1950 was different. They are all labeled R1-10 in the pictures. The ones for 1951 through 1953 are labeled as Q4-7 but the parts listings skip from Q4-6 to Q4-14. Dang - I was hoping that would answer the question.

I just put a light behind mine, and the triangle was shining bright, just as it should. I am not sure what the paint is, but is easily lets the light through.

That's what I've always thought, as well. My Hornet has the shield as being clear. It's quite bright with the lights on, especially after converting to 12V.

Also, for those that need it, '55 & '56 emblems will work on the earlier cars, but are thinner than earlier versions and have to be shimmed. Outside dimensions are identical, though. This would be for '51-'54, of course.

Speaking of the center grille medallions, have you got an extra chrome surround that houses the medallion for a '52? The one I have is pretty shoddy and looking for one that is not severely pitted.

I watched Press Kale make these by hand when he had K-Gap. Each one takes hours. So, I called him and asked him for the straight skinny. (He's not on the Internet.)

1. The emblem die is the same from '46 - '55, except the '55 has a flat back.

2. '46- '49 all are black. '50 - '55 all are red.

3. The emblem buck is clear plastic. Each detail (letters, triangle, ships, castles) is masked and the emblem is painted black or red. The black is opaque, the red is translucent so when it is chromed it looks metallic.

4. The masks are removed except for the white parts of the triangle and the emblem is sent out for plating on the back. Then the masks on the triangle are removed and those sections painted white.

5. Finally, a gray sealer coat is put on over the chrome to hold everything together.

6. All models were designed to light up.

7. The light is only supposed to shine through the triangle, not the whole emblem.

Ok good. Looking at their online store they only list the black version so I thought they might have stopped the red version.

We have lost a couple of suppliers last time I talked to them they said the person who made the taillight lenses stopped making them. I was trying to get a set of taillights for my 54. I know the Eshelmans make them now but K-Gaps were way better priced.
