how to polarize the silenoid
-
i recently rewired my 66 mercury comet and the battery has been diconnected for awhile. i charged the battery up and when i put the battery cables onto the terminals the starter silenoid starts to chatter.my friend told me i might have to polarize the silenoid?
-
You've either got a bad solenoid or you've got a low voltage leakover to the solenoid or a bad ignition/starter switch. Never heard of 'polarizing a solenoid' and have been working on cars for over 50 years!

I would trace the wires that you put in.
You may have a bad starter solenoid (but there is no such thing as polarizing it) or you have a wire going the wrong way.
