My first attempt to post a picture and all five were posted. I still hope someone can help find a 42 Ford steering wheel. Thanks100_1691.JPG800 x 600 - 62K100_1693.JPG800 x 600 - 64K100_1694.JPG800 x 600 - 62K100_1695.JPG800 x 600 - 46K100_1697.JPG800 x 600 - 33K -
Hey Lee
Was that wheel a one year specific wheel?

Good question Ron. I don't know if it is specific to 1942. I'm not a Ford guy. I grew up among the Chevy group. Now into Hudsons. I was hopeing someone on the Ford forum would know something and may have a led to a source. Since my uncle helped me get my Hudson Hornet I told him I would post a request for a 42 steering wheel. I believe the horn button may be different but not sure about the wheel from little the research I have done. I'm not possitive about the horn button either.
Lee O'Dell
He was going to hot rod it but being a 1942 he has decided to restore it. The body is in good shape, has no rust, one dent and a couple bullet holes. -
Lee,
I saw the other post about the horn buton and have not been able to find anything myself on it. I have a call in to a friend that may be able to help. If I hear anything, I'll let you know.
It's a cool looking car for sure. Should make a nice projet.
I followed a project in a magazine I get on a 46 Ford. The old Fords are nice cars.

Thanks for you help Ron. If you can get a picture to post, that would be helpful to see what the complete steering wheel, horn ring and horn button is suppose to look like.

I'll share a little history about how my Uncle Ray found and acquired this 42 Ford Coupe.
Up in Utah near my uncles ranch, there is a way out of the way narrow mountain raod he uses when he goes during hunting season. The road is barely passable with a 4X4.
About 10 years ago my uncle found this abandoned 42 Ford Coupe that went off this narrow mountain road 200 feet down the steep side. There is a difficult but easier way to get to the car to haul it out. But where it was resting was on National Park land, and the ranger would not allow any vehicles to drive on it to get to the car. Uncle Ray asked the ranger how would he be allowed to retrieve the car. The ranger replied that the car had to come out the same way it went in, straight up the side of the mountain.
Uncle Ray has been telling me about this car for years and his plans for it. Originally he was going to put a later drive train and Mustang II suspension in it.
When I went to Las Vegas to pick up the Hornet I bought, I stayed with him a couple of days. There in the back yard was that 42 Ford I had been hearing about for so long.
He told me that late one night, while up at the ranch, he took the easier way to the Ford and hauled it back home in Mt Charleston outside of Las Vegas. Now his plans for the Ford is to restore it to its original glory. He is collecting the needed parts, and the complete steering wheel assy is one of those needed parts.
That's where the car stands for now.

Ha, ha, good story. That's the way I would have done it also. Tey'll never know how it got out from where it was.
You guys that live in the far out places have all the fun. I hear stories how people acquire cars like your uncle did and I envy them. Growing up and living in Chciago, we never get to make those type of finds unless you happen to see something in a garage that the door is open to.
When I moved to Florida I thought I could find the nice unmolested cars from the old folks. Unfotunately the laws around here do not allow for cars to be parked along buildings.
I have e-mailed a friend that is big into Fords or that era. As soon as I hear anything I will let you know.
Keep us posted on the progress.

Thanks for your help Ron. I appreciate it.
Lee O'Dell -
Well Lee,
I got an e-mail from my friend. He is into later 40's Fords. Unfortunately he has no pictures or knows anyone as of now who may have a wheel. He said he will check around and if he comes across something will let me know.
Also, have you tryed the guys at http://www.earlyfordv8.org/forum/viewtopics.cfm?Forum=18
I'll keep checking

Thanks for the search link. That is a beautiful 42 Ford Coupe. I'll pass the information to my uncle. When I looked at the attached picture of the purple steering wheel it looks different then the one in the coupe. Was there a standard and a deluxe coupe? And would the purple wheel be a standard and the one in the coupe be a deluxe wheel?
Thanks for the information and the pictures. You have been a big help.
Lee O'Dell -
Hi Ron, I clicked on the heading from the 42 Ford coupe pictures and it shows another coupe with a different steering wheel style. It was made more like the purple wheel but also has a horn ring.
The heading was, 1942 Ford coupe interior Flicr - Photo Sharing!
But I could not get out of it and I had to shut down the computor to get out. Now I can't find any of my favorites. It is a whole new screen when I click on enternet. Don't know what I did wrong.
Lee O'Dell
Sorry, spoke to soon. Screen back to nomal. -
AH, computers are wonderful aren't they? Makes ya want a drink, ha,ha.
I don't know if there were different wheels for standard or coupe. I'm not sure if a 46 and 47 was a litle different then a 42. I'm still waiting for the experts to send me the answers.
I just hope some of this helps your uncle. This is what it's all about, helping people. And probably learning a bunch. I know I do almost every time tune in.
Ron
