looking for some info on the 57 ford fairlane
-
Im a newbie to this site, I currently have a 67 Fairlane Ranchero that im working on. I have always liked the 57 Fairlane and am looking at getting one for my next project. I have searched them as much as possible through ebay and auto trader classic to get a better look and have realized the 57 fairlane coupe doesnt have the factory built in flat wheel housing side skirts...it has an actually "round" rear wheel opening. On that search I found what was listed as 57 Ford custom 300, which had the same rear whell opening but the car seemed shorter and the fins, instead of curving directly behind the doors, were a straight line out the back like the 62-63 fairlane. So my question is what is the difference in the two, was the custom 300 I saw a option or was it a completely different car? Any help would be great...THANKS

57 & 8 Customs, wagons, sedan del, & rancheros were built on a 116" W.B. while the Fairlanes were on a 118" wb. As I recall the front clip and front doors off a sedan will interchange but little else. They were essentially 2 different cars.

Thanks for the info. Do know what the difference was in the models of fairlanes that had the, I guess you could say built in fender skirts, they had a semi-flat rear wheel opening. And the fairlanes that had a round rear wheel opening.

As I recall all the 57 & 8 Fords had a sort of teardrop rear wheel opening
