NEED ASSIST WITH FORD ENGINE IDENTIFICATION

PULLED AN ENGINE AND 4 SPEED TRANS OUT OF AN OLD HOT ROD SO WE COULD USE ANOTHER BETTER SHAPE SETUP.
WANT TO SELL THE FORD BIG BLOCK AND TRANS COMPLETE BUT NEED TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IT IS FIRST.
SOME INITIAL RERSEARCH SAYS IT MAY BE A 390 OR 427. cAN ANY TELL FOR SURE WITH THESE CODES AND/OR PICS?

Well, from your description & pics, The block was first used on 65 full size cars & the heads on 64s. The transmission is a truck trans, note the cover plate on lower right side of the case for a P.T.O.

FE blocks are very difficult to tell from the outside or part numbers. Most are 390's. 427 blocks have additional external main cap bolts down the side of the bottom of the block. 390's and 428's look identical from the out side.

That's right, it could be anything from 352 to 428. It looks to be out of a truck application and I would bet its a 360 or maybe a 352 if its pre-65. But you need to tear it down to really find out.Ted J. Welch
