I bought a new set of door handle bases from K gap for my truck, but I'm not sure exactly how these come apart. It looks like this crimped ring is holding it together.

Any tips on this? I don't want to break the handle...

Here's a pic of the backside.

When I replaced the bases on my handles I had to do a little file work on those crimps and spin the rings with a strip of rubber around them and a pair of plyers until I could turn them all the way around and off.. I then re-crimped the old rings 90 deg off with a couple of drill rods and a clamp. Has held well for me.

Good luck with whatever you do.

I rebuilt both of these handles today, it worked out very well. The Kgap baased are very nice!!! Both handles had bent springs as well, but I was able to re-bend the "hook" that was on the handle side and reverse them. After a good cleaning and liberal greasing, these handle work great.

One very minor thing to check off of a very very long list :)

Now that the handles are all set, the mechanism inside door is too worn to function. I need some help here to figure out whats wrong...

The basic issue is that in order to get the travel required to open the door out of the mechanism, the handle needs to be rotated beyond the stop built into the base. There is some slop in the holes for the linkage, but otherwise I don't see anything obvious. I am assuming that the slot where the handle engages should be horizontal as shown. I have the same problem on both doors, so I have no reference of what this should look like.

I need to account for roughly the gap as indicated in the picture.

    Any ideas?

PS - These Kgap bases are awesome! Perfect fit and look great too!

Just for anyone who hasn't seen these, here is my old base next to the new base before I installed them. Note the tab on the new base that limits the travel of the handles. If you look closely you can see where this tab used to reside on the original bases.
