alternator drive

i have a early 60's M47 marine chrysler flathead 6 installed in a 57 chris craft. the alternator appears just to slide into the back of a housing that also drives the raw water pump on the other side. my alternator has quit turning but the waterpump is still putting water through the engine. any ideas before i start dissassemblng things back there? i have an owners manual with several scematic breakdowns but nothing covering the area in question. any ideas on where to get a better shop manual? any guidance would be greatly appreciated. thanks
