After 25 years, I got my old teachers '66 Newport. now come the fun of restoring it. It has been garage kept and well maintained. I will re-seal / re-ring the motor, and repair the 2 rust spots at the rear window. The engine runs, but has been siting for ten years. The fun part, is locating a replacement detail sheet, that is posted on the window at the dealership, along with some of the decals. Any ideas?

As most will tell you, find a local club devoted to your car if possible. If not then I would join a local AACA Chapter. You will find many that will help with finding parts and some good advice as to any repairs.

My question is, why are going to re-ring the engine? Does it use oil? 10 years does not seem enough to warrant that but it does depend on the up keep by the previous owner.

I have constantly brought back to life vehicles that have sat that long or longer and had them opererate prfectly fine.

    Enjoy the journey.

It has a miss, and an oil leak. I am pulling the motor to clean, re-seal, and re-paint. I will change the timing chain to avoid the problems I had with my 77 Monaco. IF it needs rings, i will do it, if not, I won't. My teacher's dad bought it brand new in 65. My teacher got it when his dad passed away. He drove it once a week, untill his health went down hill, about 10 years ago. I am looking for the old car clubs in Central Fl.

Does anybody have a repair manual for this car? I am trying to replace the outer rear axle seals, and it looks like the bearings are pressed on. I don't want to destroy the seal housing nor the bearing, while removing them. Any ideas?
