Dodge Brothers pre 1916
-
i was going through some stuff and i came accrossed an old letter that has a stack of carbon copies of automotive reciepts all dated 1916 for outrageous amounts considering the time period. anyways, also inside with the reciepts is a business card that says Edwards Car Company, under that title it says Dodge Brothers. in the corner it has a location of Milwaukee, Wi. I did some research and i cant find anything on Edwards Car Company and i found out that Dodge started in 1900 and up until 1916, they only made parts for Ford. As of 1916 they made their first complete car, following in 1927 i believe, they were bought out buy Chrysler. thats alll the info i can find but im very interested in finding out what history i can about the reciepts and business card and possibly a value. i appreciate any responses from anyone who might have some hidden history i havent found or overlooked.

Try the Chryler Museum or a Chryler Club. They may have a library archieve which may have the information you seek.
You may even consider donating your find to their library.
Can you post this information on the forum. It would be interesting to see. It's interesting to learn their first years were producing parts for Ford. Do these papers say what parts they made?
Thanks for sharing. Lee -
I'll add some information that I have taken from the pages of "The Standard Catalog of American Cars 1805 - 1942. I am not sure as to any connection that you seek and I have seen errors in some publications, but this is what I have.
The Dodge Brothers of Detroit Michigan were a small machine shop from the turn of the century and in 1914 built their first car a model 30-35. They built 370 cars their first year. There is a lot more about he Dodge Brothers in the book so maybe you could find a copy in a library and read it for yourself.
Now for the Edwards.
In 1912 the Edwards Motor Car Company succeeded the company begun in Louisville, Kentucky by the Longest Brothers in 1906. No other information on that company is here.
The Longest Brothers of Louisville was in business from 1906 - 1912
Maybe you can research these other companies.
Hope this helps
