Hello, I am new to the site and to classic car collecting. I recently acquired a 1965 Ford Thunderbird hard top. My father knows cars but not enough to help me. If you can, go into greater detail about the following questions. If you can't answer them, don't worry.

    - Are washer fluid lines the same as vacuum hoses?

    - What type of radiator fluid?

    - What auto-trans fluid?

    - What size battery?

    - How many quarts of oil and what kind of oil filter?

    - Do I need to use a lead additive to the gas I use?

    - Do I need to remove the ethanol?

    Thanks for the help!!! :)

First, welcome to the site and the old car hobby in general. Enjoy.

    - Are washer fluid lines the same as vacuum hoses?

You can use vacumm line. Get as thin as you can though.

You may find some places that sell vacumm line that is rather thick

walled and it will be difficult to manuver.

    - What type of radiator fluid?

You can use regular Prestone or peak, or you can use one of the 50/50

long mileage ones. DO NOT use Dex-cool. You will probably end up

    with leaks if you do.

    - What auto-trans fluid?

Use Dexron III Mercon by Penzoil. It is designed for GM and Ford

    transmissions

    - What size battery?

Any good parts house will have a catalog for finding your battery.

Get one with high cold cranking Amps and a high reserve capacity.

    - How many quarts of oil and what kind of oil filter?

Another one that the parts house will have a catalog for on the filter.

Ford's was an FL-1 but most good brands like Fram are fine.

5 Quarts of oil will do it. Buy good oil and not cheap stuff.

    I wouldn't use Synthetic. I do use 20W50

    - Do I need to use a lead additive to the gas I use?

There has always been a lot of discussion on this but in my experience

I do not think it's required. I haven't used it ever and have had no

    ill effects.

    - Do I need to remove the ethanol?

NO. It's difficult to find a place that does not sell gasoline without

Ethanol. I think you could buy aircraft gasoline but that is hard to find

costly. I would use a stabilizer like Sta-bil if you do not use the car a

lot or if it is going to sit for a while.

    Hope this helps
