No Nationals
-
If I didnt have bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all
I cant believe after all these years and just 600 miles away - I dont see any chance of getting to the Nationals in spokane.
My truck literally broke down last week and is back in the shop for ANOTHER injector pump (of course no warranty on the one replaced 2 years ago)
Min. 2k in repairs. Since they had to tear down the intake to do the IP Im having them install new exhaust manifolds I bought over a 1-1/2 ago but couldnt afford to install.
Between the house in foreclosure, back taxes, and now my truck I'm starting to contemplate divesting myself of my Hudson and parts.
I havent touched the Hudson in over a year - dont and wont have extra money for most likely years to come.
I make 42% less than I did 8 years ago (gee have living costs and taxes gone down in that time?) I bought the car 5 years ago
) I dont even know if I can save the house...so working on the car doesnt make any sense to me at all
With all the work to fix up the shop quite honestly walking out to the shop is depressing to me now just knowing I cant afford or am confident enough I can start a project and not have to stop to pack!
I've got lotsa parts I can get rid of even if I keep the car body - twin-h parts - carb parts - suspension, rear axel, a-arms, all rear the wood pieces for a Business Coupe..probably others too!
Anyway - thanks for letting me vent!
Have fun at the Nationals - Rambo and I will be there in spirit
Take Lotsa Pictures! -
Dan, I can certainly understand the situation you are in. I haven't
had either of my 54s out for a drive in over a year. My health stops me from working on the coupe, which has the front sheet metal removed and it also keeps me from driving the sedan because I can't handle not having power steering due to the heart condition. I guess all any of us can do is try to hold on and pray that things will work out. It bums me out going to the garage knowing I can't do anything but look at alll the things I would like to get done. Worst part I guess is knowing what and how to do things but not being physically able to do them.
Anyways, Hang in there.

"Worst part I guess is knowing what and how to do things but not being physically able to do them." I couldn't have said it better.
I want to drive my PU so much. I go out to work on my pu and in a few minutes my arms are tired, my body struggles to get off the concrete. Then to find something else wrong that needs to be repaired, taxes the enthusiasm, when there are so many things needed to finish the project. The projects completion date keeps changing when the time has come and job not flinished. Sometimes I'd rather help someone else work on their car than my own.
A little each day and it will see the road.
Age 66 first time out of work 13 months, physical ability deminishing, illnesses, near death a coupe of times, memory recall getting harder. Bad hearing. When you look healthy and want to do things you used to do with ease and can't, it's a big adjustment to deal with. Been through many difficult situations and with God's help this is just another that will pass.
Alex and others often come out with something out of the blue that brings out a HEE HEE and a smile. That is every bit as good as an answer to a frustrating problem.
I liked the positive statement...When you're on the bottom there is nowhere to go but up!
For now, I have some since of doing something, by sharing some of my experience on this forum.
I'd like to thank all those who share information. I've learned alot.

Dan, I apologize for rambleing on in my previous post. We've been dealt a similar hand. I hope things turn around for you soon. I know how much you wanted to attend the Nationals this year. It is a very special event. For similar reasons we're not able to attend either.
There's hope. Next year is another special National in Oklahoma. Lets plan on meeting there. It's something to shoot for. Bettie says we are going no matter what. She said the same thing about Detroit. And we did, on a frayed shoe string.
Hang in there. Lee -
Dan, sorry to hear about ongoing difficulties. If its any consolation, you are certainly not alone. Guy I know is a landscaper, had 2 crew going during the good times, saw him the other day doing landscape maintenance on a commercial property, all by himself. Crews are gone, he's 65 and struggling to hang on.
My income is down this year as well, too many people can't pay, but I won't go after the money if they're doing the best they can. Like my dad used to say, we just gotta keep puttin' one foot in front of the other, and things will get better one day. -

LEE:
Just a thought.. I was reading a thread that was talking about getting younger folks involved with the Club.
What if you contacted a local High School or Junior College that has an AUTO SHOP and perhaps working out an arrangement where they could do the work on your car while you provide the advice.
Might be a wonderful WIN WIN -
Hang in there Dan. All storms have to pass.
Weren't you a body man Dan? What if you became a teacher and charged a few people (adults) for lessons in car repair/body work ?
I have been looking for work but lately I've been working on the Hudson's of 2 chapter members (and getting paid) that are a bit up in age and physically cannot do the work on the cars and I think there's more and more members in this situation that aren't ready to part with their Hudsons. So maybe instead of bringing your car to the local HS shop, finding someone youger you trust or think has potential and the right stuff to take a little direction from you, and you could get someone at your own garage working on your Hudson and in the process get them interested and pass on some knowldge by mentoring. There might not be as many kids into cars as in the old days but you only really need to find one good kid. -
If you can pay airfare from Seattle to Spokane ($120.00 ROUND TRIP) I can share a room with you for a couple nights..I'll pay for the room.
I'm thinking I would go over on the 3rd and return on the 5th
Can't spend the entire week there
