I seem to remember it being $39.95, in the '60's- I guess the price crept up with inflation. I remember us "car guys" joking about it at the time- "But Mr. Scheib- I got your paint job, and it washed off in the first rain- what shall I do now?" Scheib answers, "I'll paint any car for $39.95." -
I remember getting 2 cars painted by shieb's company. The secret was to find out which guy was going to paint your car then slip him an extra 20 to do a really nice job. PLUS, do all the prep work you could. I even taped my 62 impala and just had a cut out in the paper on the front and back then DROVE it to the shop (about 5 miles) Did a 65 galaxy 500 the same way. Paint was not show quality but looked good from 10feet and that was plenty good for me. I think I had about $50 each and was really happy with the results. Remember to tape over the front and rear windows before spraying. this was in the 60's

I got one of my Hudson's painted by the Earl of Schbie. Mostly because A. I didn't have much money and B. So when I had that car the neighbors wouldn't complain about the "junk car". I think that outfit is where a lot of aspiring body men got their practice before they went to a real body shop.

They painted my first three cars, but then as I mentioned my Dad did all the work for me. The only one we had any problem with was the "32 Roadster" that had 31 coats of Candy Apple Red paint. It was a great looking job, but after three years the weight of the paint and my driving caused it to start to crack---everywhere---Brownie

When I got out of hi school I used to buy VW bugs to fix up and sell. Some I made a little money but one I lost my shirt on big time. I had Earl Sheib paint three of them. All real nice looking paint jobs, $29.95. Painting the wheels was included. The one I keep, decided to shed a sheet of paint from the trunk on the freeway about a year latter. ,
Must have been going to fast. Lee
