Pre-War Two-Tones?

In the '42 Hudson Brochure, it mentions that two tone exterior colors are available on Comm. (other models extra).

Question: Was the '42-'47 models two tone schemes "fenders-only" the "other" color, like earlier Hudsons? Anybody have a pic of a two-toned '42-'47?

    Just curious . . .

Russell: The following link is to a page on line which shows one of the two tone paint schemes for a 42 Hudson 4 door. I have seen coupes with this same paint scheme.

Other than the brochure I've never seen any two tones from the factory but you never know how many of the repainted cars could of been two tones.

I have stared and studied my two 42 Commodores trying to envision a nice two tone scheme but I keep going back to solid colors. I think one color cars show off the stainless trim so much better!

The '42 brochure, posted by Ken, shows pretty much that the two-tone cars were split at the belt line with the roof being one color and the body a contrasting color. My General Information Handbook lists the 1946 and 1947 colors, including the two-tones offerend. I got to do some digging for 1940-1942 - I have the color options but not the two-tone colors.

Thanks, y'all. That split at the beltline rings a bell, I must've seen a car done this way at some time or another. Personally, I don't think it would be as sharp as having the other color on the fenders. Which brings me to my latest question:

What was the last year for the "fenders-only" 2nd paint color? '39?

I have a 41 sedan about ready for paint which I'am planning on going two tone. They must have came from the factory like that because I have advertisements showing two tone paint schemes,[ one blue and the other brown] of course light on top of the belt line. Would like to see more combinations to make a decision. I think the two tone really sets it off.

Type in [1941-1954 Hudson Ditzler Paint ] It has two tone colors.

Russ, here's a pic of our '47 C8 with two-tone done as the factory did from '41-'47.

I think the "fenders only" jobs after '34 or '35 were special order, as one just didn't see them that way in brochures or on the street, and the paint sheets didn't mention two-tones.

I owned a new 1942 and it was 2 toned at the belt line. In 1940, Hudson came out with a model called Blue Goose in a 4 door sedan, body was Grey and 4 fenders were dark blue. They didn't last the whole year. Have to dig out an old picture. Walt.

    Thanks again, everybody!

    Park-
Thanks for the photo, seem to remember that pic from your website, now that I see it. As far as the black fenders go, I've seen a '36 & '37, just didn't know when they stopped doing it.

Walt sent me a photo of a '42C6 he bought new in late '41. It has the two-tone paint scheme with the Hudson Blue Bird on top and tan on bottom (is that right, Walt?).

Russell, it was Tan bottom and Silver Grey on top. The Blue Bird I mentioned was a model that came out in 1940 only, Grey body and dark blue fenders and was called, Blue-Bird, and didn't last the year. Walt.
