possibly a fouled plug, mismatch of dist cap and rotor. If dist cap has a solid contact for the coil [center} terminal then the rotor needs to have the flex {spring arm] at ctr of rotor. if it's a spring loaded brush then rotor term. needs to be solid. Hudson used both types.

You probably have the problem solved by now.
However, if not, I think the distributor cap terminal is badly corroded. When the wire is pushed in further the corrosion is so thick at that point, between the terminal and wire, that it prevents current making contact with the wire. This was a thought since you did not say if there was, or was not any corrosion.
