54 Chry NY T&C Wagon
-
What I really wanted was a Woody. Too much money for my income (and wife). And then the 54 became availabe and it has a wood floor & seatbacks. The 331 hemi with factory 4 bbl & dual exhaust made it irresistable.
In the first year I've had it, I stood up a farmers falling down 4 place garage for 5 years storage for the car & a boat. I bought a full set of light lenses, 4 wheelcovers, and the missing headlight doors for $1200. The next step is to come up with money to build a place to store and rebuild close to home. In the meantime--research. Turns out my nameplate under the hood on the firewall (Chrysler called this the cowl) says Paint = 72, Trim = 38, Sched = 049, & Item = 1513. The Imperial club says & shows the paint code. I assumed the Trim 38 meant interior color was Brown & Tan. My seats are red & white (which would suggest the sched number 049 was the interior color). The books indicate the red & white interior was not available in the T&C. The interior paint, guages, and upholstery are all red w/white accents and look just like the 54 literature shows but I can't reconcile the color I have with published literature. Who do I contact that knows 'everything Chrysler'? In my world, everything visible has to be indestinguishable from factory. I will keep as much original car as possible but what I have to restore, I want better than factory. Happy resto (with invisible mods).
Thanx to Dennis Klubertanz & Atlas Obsolete for rare parts. -
