54 paint combo
-
I'm going to do a color change from the original Lipstick red over Coronation Cream to Royal Red over Black on my 54 Hornet club coupe . Is this a combo that one could get originally? I see on some color chip charts that Black over Royal Red was avaliable but how about the reverse? Should I care if it wasn't? Im thinking Royal Red top, rear quarters and continental kit spare tire cover over a Black body would look really nice and make the all the polished stainless trim and chrome stand out.

I like it . . . but then again, have you seen my avatar?

The only red/black combination listed in the 48-54 parts book is a Ebony Black upper and royal red lower, Combination number 175. But as many have pointed out.. The buyer was the boss in 54. I suppose one could order any combination and get his way..
I have a 54 Hollywood here in the shop that was originally Pasture green bottom and Coronation cream upper. No such combination in the book..I repainted Coronation Cream over Palm Beach green . The paint codes were stamped with paint on the vin plate not into the upper hinge as in 48-53 models. The paint code could easily be removed from the plate with a simple wipe of a rag and lacquer thinner. And many were simply removed by extra cleaning! It's your car.. do it to suit yourself. -

haha, yes Russell! You might be a little favorative in this case.
My brother Jim has a '54 that is white and red. It looks great! But, the black and red sounds good too. I think if you go with what you like, you can never go wrong.
Either one will look good.
Anyone have pictures of a '54 in black and red? -
Not to hijack the thread, but...Isn't it funny how one question spawns another? I think I remembered seeing a 54 convert that was ebony lower with a red top.. If that was available, one would think a painted version of that combination would be available on hard tops and coupes etc.. So..I checked the 48-54 book. I couldn't find any reference to colors of TOP material available. Just two types of materials. The book says to specify year and color of top when ordering. So we need to call in Dave or Nick, our resident 54 conv. gurus.. What say you guys?
