Can anyone cross reference a Dorman number?

    I came across a Dorman expansion plug number of E-16 for a set of the plugs for my 36 212. My local auto parts cant seem to find a current number.

    Anyone have one or able to cross it??

    Thanks,

    Jeff

    You mean the water jacket plugs? Well I can't tell you for the 212 but if they're 2" plugs just like the stepdowns then I got the number somewhere here.

    Hey Aaron,

    Nope. These are barely and inch or so. The seven that I am looking at seem to be mostly in cooling passages on head and block.

    Thanks anyway!

    Jeff;

    Do you have access to a vernier calipers to measure the OD of these? The ID of the hole would work, too. Are they the shallow convex disc-type like the ones used at the top rear of a stepdown six?

    Hey 308,

    Yes I will measure them. And, I believe they are the small convex type.

    Havent pulled one out yet as wanted to make sure I could replace it!

    Thanks,

    Jeff

    I just replaced all of the expansion plugs in my '40 212. The larger ones in the block are 1", there are 3 of them. The smaller ones in the head are 7/8" and there are 4 of them. The 1" were easy to find. The 7/8" had to be ordered.

    Thanks, Super 7!

    The 1" shallow convex expansion plugs are Clevite P/N 219-1008 (Dorman P/N 550-012).

    Sorry, I don't have a P/N for the 7/8" plugs... they aren't used on the stepdown 6. Now that you know the size, ordering them yourself should be a "can o' corn".

    Jeff;

    If you can get the part number for the 7/8" plugs, be sure to post it here for the next guy! ;)

    Hey Hudson308, thanks yourself. You were the one that pointed me in the right direction. I got mine from NAPA and did not think to ask for a part number.

    FINALLY!

    After callin, and searchin I got em!

    Correct on the 1" ones they are Dorman # 550-012, AND the 7/8" ones are Dorman # 550-010!

    Actually got em off an old machinists dusty shelf in NOS condition but the numbers should still be good.

    Thanks for posting your results, Jeff.

    Are there any other expansion plugs on the block or manifolds of your 212? Would be great to know the size of those, as well. :)
