Gas leak in '76 Camaro
-
I do not anything about cars my aunt just gave me her '76 Camaro I took it to Kragen auto parts just to get a new lid for the Coolent tank and the guy helping me had me start the engine and said that it has a gas leak from the carburetor I do not know what to do I cant afford to get it fixed just yet but I have to drive it. Is that safe? I know its illegal (in CA) because I need to get it smogged but is it safe?
-
A gas leak is not safe anywhere on the car but especially under the hood. It could most definitely lead to a fire. The cost of fixing the leak could be nothing as it could involve simply tightening or replacing a fuel line or hose or such. Whatever it costs, it will be a lot cheaper than having any fire damage fixed or having to replace the car altogether if it should burn completely.

AMEN to that answer.
GET IT FIXED
And don't even drive it the repair shop, tow it. I have seen many cars burn to the ground from a small fuel leak on the engine.
