stepdown front brake drums

Can anyone shed some light on why there are two different front drums for the 48 listed as 1st and 2nd type.
The only thing I can see is the outer bearing location is different by about .210" ? Thanks -

My understanding was that Hudson was working off old 46-7 inventory. I think some of the other steering components were 46-7 as well.

The first 48's came out using 46 and 47 parts and after a month or two the correct parts came out and was used right to 1954 on all long wheel base cars and 1953 Super Wasp, also have the long wheel base parts. That was Hudson, use up all parts in stock. Walt.Walt Mordenti to the white courtsey phone please!
