well i just got back from having my baby inspected today and my dad noticed my car was "humming" we have determined that it has to do with the fuel pump and the only way the pump turns off is if we disconnect the battery...so what does this mean and do i have to remove the panels to get to it?

dad thinks its the relay switch to the pump....

You don't say what engine you have in the car or if there are any codes.

Possible relay, ECM or a grounded wire.

oops my apologies V6 2.8L didnt check the codes yet...dad has been looking and thinks its the relay switch for my fuel pump..hes pretty nifty with cars and were lucky to have a hydraulic lift in our barn.....he disconnected the relay and re hooked tha battery back up and its not humming anymore so ...i think we found it....just wanted a second opinion to be 100% positive

No appology needed. Sometimes different cars engines have different electrical charts is all.

It sounds like your dad did a good job of hunting it down. If it works properly with a new relay, great. If it's not fixed it may be the pump driver in the ECM.

I hope it goes the cheap and easy route for you. Best of luck.

we got a new relay and put it in ....and yay theres no more humming it starts alot better too wasnt bad only $13...and dads always in advance auto getting parts for different peoples cars to fix so sometimes he gets deals...he just hasnt worked on too many classics.....i just got an 85' Iroc hood with louvers to go on my car....its gonna look sweet...i was told the 85' hood is "special" cause the louvers from that year are the only ones that will fit it and every other year is either to big or small in length.....cant wait to see what it lookes like....it will also be getting a new paint job.

Sounds like your Dad fixed it. Great.

Post some pictures of the car. It's always good to see others projects.
