New Member - could use some help
-
Hi All,
My wife has a 61 Ford Fairlane. From what I can tell, it's pretty rare, although not very valuable.
In any case, it's sitting at the shop right now and they called to say that they are having trouble finding parts.
It has a 292 Y-block.
Apparently, they need valve cover gaskets and a new choke...and can't find either of them. Anyone know a good place to look for these?
Thank you in advance -
Try NAPA or Car Quest

Thanks, Jim.
I would hope that the service center would know to check those sorts of places, but you never know...
I just assumed that since they said that they are having trouble finding parts, that I'd need to find some kind of "special" parts place.
I appreciate the feedback. -
Tarsky, I don't know anything about Ford Y-Block engines, but I typed "Y-Block parts" into Google and got the following two websites right away:
http://www.store.partsdinosaur.com/page214.html
http://ford-y-block.com/enginepa.htm
The first one appears to have gaskets.
You might also want to acquaint yourself with www.Hemmings.com, which is a source for lots of old cars and parts, not just Fords.
If you've never used a search engine such as Google, you might want to learn. It's really easy, and you can turn up some pretty amazing stuff. The parts that we old-car guys seek, are often "off the radar" to most everyday parts stores, but there's a whole underground network of suppliers out there for almost anything you'd need for older automobiles. You just have to know where to look. -
Thank you very much! That is helpful.
I did do some searching on my own and found that second one...but not the first.
These forums are such a great place for info!
Thanks again!
