need ext. oil pump drive rod for 256 merc motor
-
i have a 54' merc with a 256cu.in. in it and the oil pump needs the drive rod. where can i find this part?? the original one is missing so i dont know exactly what it looks like!
-
It's a 1/4" hex rod that goes from the dist to the oil pump. If you can't find one, [I think Y blocks all used the same part} you could probably make one from 1/4" hex tool steel.

Sorry, I posted some wrong info for you a while back. Y block engines do NOT use the 1/4" hex drive shaft for the oil pump, but one out of any Y block should work. 239, 256, 272, 292, or 312.
