1952 Hornet Coupe Restoration Progress
-
To all,
I know some of you asked/interested with Hornet status restoration, while I was on 24 day Pacific Rim trip; the builder Allen experienced unfortunate accident assembling front end together which scratched three already prepped painted sheet metal pieces in pictures and cracked newly installed front windshield...Additional delay's also caused from ordering/delivery of PPG paint and front windshield arrival, as you can see from Allen's email to me, restoration is back on track...Wouldn't you rather own a Hudson?
Ray
Hi Ray,
I just finished painting the fenders and hood. Thought I would give you a update. The paint showed up today at noon. The windshield also was delivered today. They are all painted and look good again. As soon as they are dry I will start putting the front together. Going to take a small break and then go work on getting the windshield in tonight. Here are a few pictures I just took.

Elegant!

Looking good, Ray- Although I admit I was a little surprised when I saw the first photo- "Now why on earth is he painting one side red and the other purple?"
Still looking forward to seeing the finished product one day.

Good Morning Russ,
Hudson perfectionist like your good self have sharp eyes; little less than three years ago, at same time frame, I purchased one '52 Hornet (Mike's) and one '53 Hornet (Northern California) coupe's respectively; part of my arrangement with first builder was money and barter give away of '53 Hornet which is another story...Anyway and because my first Hornet was a 1953 sedan and I always liked the look of bird emblem of '53 Hornet and purchased a great rust free hood therefore didn't use '52 hood requiring work under front lip portion...
Hope you visit Vegas one day, so we can meet and have a lunch together...
Stay well,
Ray -

Good Morning Mike,
Pity, Allen experienced slight accident installing hood which slipped scratching two already painted fenders and hood causing removal, repainting of sheet metal in pictures and another new windshield, never a dull moment, wouldn't you rather own a Hudson...
I hope you decide to visit Vegas soon and I am sure car I purchased from you will be completely restored at which time I'll pick you up and take you for a nice lunch. In the meantime I am having fun driving my completely restored '62 Buick Skylark around town, that Allen also finished...I still have a pretty nice '56 Hornet Twin-H powered and don't know if I'll go forward with restoration of this car; see attached pictures of Hornet and Buick...
Take care and hope to see you soon,

Moving along, as work continues 1952 Hudson Hornet is really looking like great Hudson car manufactured in the 1950's. See latest progress pictures, making new clips for chrome and stainless which should be installed next week.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the kind words and yes I will pass on your compliment to Allen...We entered Buick into Police Car show tomorrow whereby proceeds go to families of policeman hurt in the line of duty, can't wait to get Hornet road worthy...How's is your project coming along?
Have a great weekend,
Ray -
To all,
Continued progress of '52 Hornet, see added pictures...Have ordered 3 M product that Craig recommended necessary to install window stainless trim also some parts from MacMaster catalogue; hopeful they will arrive later this week and Allen can do a little more work on my car...He's on his way to Portland Swap Meet, therefore not much more will be started until next Wednesday. Maybe unrelated but if interested see 3 seconds of 3 minute which was edited with Allen of channel 8 interview; you may have to cut and paste link and view one commercial?

Looks gorgeous, Ray!! How'd you get your center emblem looking so good? Is that a repro? After a long search, I finally got my hands on a really good one, but still not perfect, maybe 90% or so. Don't forget the "HORNET" in the fender badge needs to be red.

Good Morning Russ,
Reference my steering center emblem, I didn't know anyone was making repro's; mine isn't one. Like you, I search bid and purchased won several on eBay before getting acceptable one, same with all interior and exterior chrome on Hornet I had chrome ring replated and steering wheel is rebuilt.
This morning on eBay you may want to check following Item number: 290419812875 which looks pretty good, however some times pictures can be deceiving?
Reference fender and trunk Hornet badges; all three Hornet letters will be painted red. As always thanks you and others who expressed interest in restoration. Like Dave says "Whats Life Without A Hudson" even though I haven't finished this one, I am toying with idea of going forward with my '56 Twin-H Hornet?

I say go for it, Ray. It looks to be in great shape. It should take Allen no time at all!Dave W.
