Help with a '66 Town Thunderbird
-
I need some advise.
I found a nice 1966 Town Thunderbird for sale, all original, white wall tires, wheels, nice interior (White Pearl with burgundy), burgundy exterior (extremely bad paint), no rust, straight body, 390.
If I purchase it for $3,000.00 and get a good, original paint code paint job, would I be in over my head? Is this a pretty common, less desirable T-bird?
What would YOU do?
Vin# 6y81Z124389
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.! -
What state is this car in?
-
As in state, I mean which state in the United States.
-
Define "in over your head"
If you are thinking of re-sale, most classics when purchased needing work and fixed up, will not bring a profit or at least a very big one.
Buy the car if you like it and want to have fun with it.

Before you purchase this particular car, you might want to look around to see what similar cars are selling for. You might find that this car is a real bargain....or....maybe it isn't!
Just type the car into Google and add "for sale" and see what you get. For example, when I did, the following popped up:

You could also visit Hemmings Motor News at www.Hemmings.com and follow the links to their Ford Cars For Sale section, to see what comparable T-Birds are going for. A good paint job is going to set you back several thousand dollars, so if you can buy one for $4-5,000 with a really good paint job, you might do better to get it, rather than go through the headache and expense of painting one yourself.
