Hi All,
Its the big day on Tuesday, the old girl has been called up for inspection from our Land Transport Authority for her final inspection and if all goes well I will receive ownership papers and a warrant of fitness, this has bee a long worrying process, so far has taken about 10 weeks, which will make her legal for the 1st time since 1945
I been under her cleaning it all up so the Bling (LOL) will stun them and make it a lot smoother i hope
I tell you next time I do something I will Make sure I have the ownership papers, as they are getting so tough here and its just not worth the greif
It will be registered back as originally a 1931 Essex Deluxe coupe
and will have the number plate 31 ESSX
The reason its worth getting it registered as vintage is that you only pay I think $95-00 for registration each year instead of $245-00 so its not so bad having her sitting around in the garage

Good luck Mike. It's a b*t*h of a process, I know only too well having done the same thing with our 2nd '28 E Coupe. But soon you'll have a VIN number pot rivited to your firewall & sandblasted onto the rear window & it will all be a distant memory & a story to retell!!Dave Y

Only the Kiwis are that tough, we in Australia don't have any problems like that at all, you buy a wreck and build your self a car from many different cars and parts and your set to go, as long as it's road worthy and passes the inspection.
no titles, no bill of sale or any other rubbish, you buy the car, you own it. -
My 36 costs me ten dollars a year. No inspection, nothing. If I remember right, title and licence transfer was 25 dollars. We have it easy over he in the states (anyway, here in Utah.)Brownie

What do they fleece you for registration etc a year across the ditch ? and whats the cost of a warrant of fitness or is the included in the registration and isnt there a fee (or tax) when you sell your cars as well ?

Good luck Mike, I hope the process goes smooth. I was pleased when I moved to TN and registered my 1950, $60 gets a Antique tag that is good for 25 years. No inspection or anything. These tags are only for original cars though, no modifieds.

Congratulation. I'm glad we don't have it so tough. However, I'm not so sure some kind of safety inspection would not be a bad thing.
When my kids were in scouts there were many camping trips each year. The scout master had a van that carried about 8 -10 boys. He brought the van into my shop for some work. After checking it out I would never have allowed by boys to ride with him. All the suspension parts,brake parts and tires were totally worn out. I gave him credit for having the sence to repair the van.
I suggested to him, that I thought it would be a good idea for any vehicles used for scout transport to have the vehicle safety checked. Until then, it never accured to me, our kids would be in unsafe vehicles on those trips.
Unfortunatly there are still alot of people that don't give any thought to servicing their cars. And they are running around with their babies and children at risk, as well as themselves and others on the road.
At least you can be relatively sure the vehicles around you are as safe as yours. We do not have that assurance here.

Hi All, the ironic thing that has happened is now its registered as a 1931 Essex
it now doesn't require, high stop lights, indicators, safety belts, allowed dodgy wipers, and in the future no law changes will it have to comply with, so the hours and money spent could be seen as a waste of time

Rang the personalized plates today and will receive my new plates (31 ESSX) in 15 working days so at least everyone wont be asking what it is
They will only ask if its English LOL
