Starter field coils
-
Hi,
I'm a Hudson nut just passin' thru.
Over on our Hudson forum there is a discussion about changing a six volt starter to 12 volts. Since both Hudson and Mopar in the fifties used Auto-lite electric stuff . I wondered if any of you have converted a fifties starter to 12 volts? The field coils that have been used in the past by some of our Hudson guys was an Ace # ST-49. We haven't found a source for them either. Some guys said they thought Mopar used the same starter on the 6 cyl with different field coils when the factory went to 12 volts (1956?).
Google searches haven't turned anything up either. Any thoughts are welcome.
Someone with a Auto-lite parts interchange book would be very helpful
And... Yes we know the 6 volt starters work great on 12 volts, but eating up flywheel ring gears is guaranteed. if not now...later. Don't ask me how I know this...LOL..
