That 383 looks mighty nice under that hood! You've got a very slick little coupe there.

I put the battery in the back of my car. The starter worked better when I installed a long larger ground cable from battery to engine, instead of from battery to frame, from frame to engine.

Its far from a Rat Rod and I dont know why your not real proud because most people will like the tastful way that you did everything building your Hudson with what resources were available, especially in a very short period.

It will be a real head turner....Enjoy the attention....

The thing Im not real proud of is the 440 under under the hood, I wanted to go original - that idea wouldnt work out , so I changed coarse and went the V8 route, Im pretty happy how the car turned out-- guess I better edit the wording in the engine pic , thanks for the positive comments!!!!

Looking Good - be proud, you did a nice job!

How did you mount the lower ends of your hood shocks. I made brackets to move the mounting point out - because the shock was rubbing on the inner fender while closing...maybe you used a different style shock?

Rambo, thats your patent holding my hood up , you didnt say if you charge a royality fee -- I used a short gas shock like the new Dodge PUs use , but they strained the hood more than I wanted, so I copyed your car ( thanks by the way) did you notice the 1956 Ford truck hood stiffener rods on the under side of the hood, also Ol Racer thanks for the help on the rear sway bar and other stuff -- and thanks to everyone on the board for tips and answers to my questions , this site was a great help to me revamping the car !!

Since Chrysler (Uncle Sam?) now owns the trademark rights to the Hudson name, I think Hudsons are fair game for a Mopar engine swap. As Mike in NZ (essexcoupe3131) found out, they'll LOVE you at the Mopar shows!!!

What everybody else said - that is one beautiful job. And in only a year??? What you got in your shop - a magic wand??? :D

The late, great, Terraplane Kelly Hinegardner was an advocate of Mopar power in Hudsons - he would have been extremely complimentary about your work, I'm sure.

Take that beauty to the nearest Mopar meet when you get the chance - don't say anything, just open the hood and watch what happens.

By the way - like the dash/instrument cluster treatment as well.

They will love to see you at a Mopar show especially with that baby sitting in there, they got a shock to see a small block in mine, when mine comes back from the upholsterers, in the coming weeks its time to have a look at the headers to see if I can gain back the hp I am missing

Stateline, do those electric wiper motors have a "park"? Would you mind telling me what brand and model you used? I will need to go electric too. I've got a '55 Chrysler 331 Hemi (dual carbed or street blown) in my garage waiting for our '50 Pacemaker Coupe (one day that is!) and need to get rid of the cable wipers.

    Thanks,

when you take that puppy to the next Mopar show you should walk away with one of these, as there's plenty of big buck Mopars out but they wont have a patch on yours, because you dare to be different, and at a peoples choice show, you should shoe in:D

Im still looking for a better setup on the wiper system , I tried the its a snap first but pulled it out, Im using two motors - no park on them , got them from JC Whitney, $14 each and a spare . if I was doing it over Id remove the heater housing, that will open up alot of room under the dash for a single wiper motor with arms to each wiper, then you could find lots of different setups that would work

Stateline, I did remove the heater box on mine and the cowl vent will get welded shut, so maybe that will give me some room. Though my main reason for removing the box was to make sure I had enough room for a behind the dash heater/a/c system. I'm hoping not to use up too much space with wiper arm systems, I am hoping I can find a set-up that could use two wiper posts that could be synced electronically, such as speed and parking. Hopefully, we can find this, or if not, something with smaller arm systems that use up less underdash space.

    Stateline,
I have 2 questions for you.
    1. Why did you get rid of the It's-A-Snap wiper unit? This is what I am using in my car? I have run them mounted in the car and everything seems to work OK.
    2. Were there any modifications to the 1956 Ford truck hood stiffener rods and how well do they work?

    Peace,
    Chaz

    Hi Jay,
First of all, it's good to see you posting. Hope all is well with you and your family.
To answer your question, YES it does go to park. The only thing that you have to deal with is whether you want to have them operate and park in mirror image positions or to operate in parallel with each other. Mirror image operation means they will come to rest facing each other. Operating in parallel like newer cars is where they are swinging left to right in unison (or right to left) and this is the easiest to install since both of the 2 transmissions can be mounted below as in the pic. If you choose the mirror image operation, you have to a lot of cutting and welding in the tray area below the windshield.
Have a great day and Peace,
    Chaz

maybe its just me, the its a snap cable drive doesnt seem like it would be dependable enough, if something went wrong with it there wouldnt be any wipers and a pain to repair- remember I still have the heater housing dividing my under dash - dont like the noise either .there are kits for early 50s Chevys with two piece windshield that use rigid arms and are setup right for the wiper sweep, the 56 Ford stiffeners are a perfect fit ,the front mounts fit in existing hood holes- had to drill rear cross brace for back ones.

stateline, is the noise coming from the wiper motor, cable, or the wiper posts? How loud is it?

I thought the drive cable running back and forth is kind of noisy , the motor seems pretty good, mine was mounted about the same as the pic above and I had the drivers side one flipped over so the wipers swept like the oringnals did-- to each his own I guess

    Jay,
I have heard and read that the motors/gear box is noisy. It could have been a "first generation" thing but any time you have whirling gears and metal contacting each other you are going to have noise. Not all of the Vendors used the same electric motor even though all the rest of the unit was exactly the same. It didn't seem to bother me when I was test running it. When finishing up the interior I am going to suspend it over sound deadener, rubber grommets and then a sound deadening box to fit over it so it's no big deal for me. Besides how often will I use it? And at my age and hearing ability and turning up the Rolling Stones for all I can crank out of my stereo, I can't hear it any way. There are other vendors that sell the same design. Just look in the car magazine ads for other companys. I had a brand new NewPort unit in it first before I yanked it out and threw it away. It would never come to park in the same place twice in a row which was totally frustrating. You may want to go on HAMB and ask the question from those guys about It's-A-Snap. I am sure you will get a lot of feed back.
    Peace,
    Chaz
