Chapin Cars

At this past year's HET national meet in Pontiac, MI - Bill Chapin, grandson of Hudson founder Roy Chapin and son of AMC CEO Roy Chapin, Jr, gave a great keynote speech about "Chapin Cars" - cars that had direct influence by a member of his family. Obviously there were quite a few Hudsons in the list of Chapin cars, but there were several '70s era AMCs in the mix.

How many of us have a "Chapin" in our garage in addition to our Hudsons? I added mine in October '09....(I think someone mentioned that all Hornets are green)

During the Chapin Era I sold AMC and Jeep at Fort Wayne Americian, Fort Wayne IN. I sold 41 new Pacers and had 8 new demonstraters.

Last month I aquired this 1975 Pacer "X"

I remember selling a Hornet just like yours Matt, the buyer told me it got the same gas mileage as his 1941 Hudson.

What kind of extras did the "X" Pacers have? Thanks, Bob

I had one of those Pacers for a while, a station wagon, along with an Eagle. Funny story about the Pacer. I walked around one in an AMC showroom, lookiing and looking. Finally a salesman came over and asked me what I was looking for. He wasn't amused when I told him I was looking for the air valve they used to blow it up with - to me it did look a little like an over sized beach ball.

Good little car tho - only complaint I had was with all that glass it did tend to get a tad warm on a sunny day. Mine had a nice AM/FM radio and a built in CB radio.

Nice looking Pacer! I never thought I'd say that. Is it as clean as it looks?

    Hey Matt, thanks for comment.

Yes its clean, new paint, new vinyl top, new decals, and headliner,

and very nice inside, and clean under the hood also.

Plan to put car on the lift and clean, and paint underneath.

Just need ambition to get started
