1966 Fairlane 500 Question
-
Hello everyone. As you can tell I am new here.
I may have an opportunity to aquire what I believe is a 1966 Fairlane 500. I believe it to be a 66 because I am fairly certain that it has drum brakes. This particular car has been sitting for quite some time and will need a complete retoration. I personaly do not posess the means or the patience nessesary for such a project, I am only trying to save a wonderful classic from the scrap crusher. Upon my initial inspection, I found that the hood was missing. Other than that, all sheet metal seems to be straight and rust free. It seems as though the headlights, taillights, all glass and emblems are still intact. The front windows were rolled down so the interior is completely shot.
My questions are as follows.
Is this car worth saving? Will I be able to find someone interested in restoring the car?
Was the Fairlane ever available with a 351 engine? There are emblems on the front fenders that say 351. All my research thus far does not show that Fairlanes were ever offered with a 351.
Would these emblems be factory installed or installed by a previous owner?
I would appreciate any help given. -
According to my 66 Fairlane Shop Manual it shows that "NO" 351 engines were available. Hence, I would be skeptical. If you can copy all the information on the "Warranty Plate" that is on the drivers door and post it here and I can help you with the way the car was built.
If the car is worth restoring or not is up to the person that is interested in the car. It sounds like yours at the very least would be of value to someone looking for parts but quite possibly worth a full restoration to some. Pictures always help to make a valuation of any vehicle.
If you decide to sell the car, look around on the net for Ford sites and people that are interested in these cars. I am confident that you will find someone that is interested.

Thanks Ron
As I get a chance, I intend to get the information from the door plate and the vin so I can research it more. The parts thing was more what I was thinking than anything else. I believe there are many good parts on the car. -
This could not be a factory 351 Fairlane if it is a '66. The 351 came out in '69. The V8s for '66 were the 289, the 389 and the 427.

Sorry about my earlier typo - I meant to say 390, not 389.
