Hudson rims with Cadillac hubcaps
-
Question:
Has anyone actually tried mounting 1948 Cadillac Sombrero hubcaps onto stepdown Hudson rims without modifying them? The Cadillac hubcaps have an inner ring that attaches to the rim rather than the outer parimeter tabs like most other hubcaps.
Peace,

Are you using the Hudson wheels on Lola?
I'd go for some modern welded steel rims as opposed to the riveted Hudson originals - just a personal preference mind you... -
Hi Dan,
No, I am doing some switching around. I have a beautiful set of Hudson hubcaps on my '47 Ford convertible (Dave) that I want to put back on my Hudson. The Cadillac hubcaps are to go on the Ford which has Hudson rims. There is a possibility that the attaching rings are similar and just might work.
BTW, my little '47 Ford (Dave) won both Best in Show AND a First Place at the Veterans Day Car Show last month at the VA Hospital in Kerrville, Texas.

Sweet Little Ford!!!! They should fit, but, I would say that they only way you would know, after taking measurements is to do a dry fit. Much like Dan though, if you are running Steel belted radial tires on the Ford, I would upgrade to a better rim. The Mopar rims from 49 to 52 are a direct fit for the Hudson bolt pattern and are much stronger. Would hate to see you split a rim at 70 and mess up a fender......Brownie
