Hudson Antenna's
-
Not sure you guys have seen this, but, there is a company on ebay selling antenna's for any model Hudson . I would like to tell him where to go with his adds, as I'm getting sick and tired of seeing four pages of his adds.
He does the same on the Rambler ebay site. -

I agree!! What a bunch of B S. What can we do to get rid of this? -
Select the "auctions only" tab at the top of the page. Not the "All Items" one. (I am assuming you have set your Ebay Motors search for "Hudson" as I have -- http://motors.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=hudson&_sacat=&_trksid=p4506.m270.l1313&LH_Auction=1&_sop=10&_odkw=hudson&_osacat=0 )

I told the guy a few years ago when he was only listing "onesy-twoseys" these won't fit most Hudsons in the factory location. He growled back something about his application book says they do.Workin Stiff

I'm sick and tired of page after page of those ads also. Pretty annoying to me and I wouldn't buy anything from him just because of the annoyance of having to scroll down page after page and wasting my time. Seems to me a couple of ads stating he has antennas for most all Hudsons would be adequate. Just MHO. Richie. -
It is not only antennas... Mufflers, tire covers, brake hoses, filters, you name it.
I've got a search saved on ebay that removes all of those items, so all I see are what I consider the 'valid' sales items...
If you don't want to see the stuff, put a minus sign in front of the item in your search, and it will remove it...
One of my searches:
http://motors.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=(Terraplane%2C%20Hudson)%20-antenna%20-muffler%20-%22grab%20handle%22%20-%22tire%20cover%22%20-%22brake%20hoses%22%20-%22window%20storage%20bag%22%20-%22car%20cover%22%20-driving%20-tow%20-receiver%20-tip%20-filter%20-air%20-shackle%20-patch%20-tie%20-shaft&_trkparms=65%253A10%257C39%253A1&_sop=10&_pgn=1&_trksid=m194&ssPageName=STRK:MEFSRCHX:SRCH
Essentially, it removes sales items that have the following in the title:
(Hudson, Terraplane) -antenna -muffler -"grab handle" -"tire cover" -"brake hoses" -"window storage bag" -"car cover" -driving -tow -receiver -tip -filter -air -shackle -patch -tie -shaft
Now, if you are looking for something specific, say a 'turn signal switch', then you just narrow the focus of your search -
http://motors.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=%28Terraplane%2C+Hudson%29+turn&_sacat=&_trksid=p4506.m270.l1313&_sop=10&_dmpt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&_odkw=%28Terraplane%2C+Hudson%29+turn&_osacat=0
Essentially it limits the search to just what you want to see: "(Hudson, Terraplane) Turn" -
We're having problems with the same people on the Packard side as well. I devised a refined search for Packards, and with a little modification it works for Hudson as well. http://motors.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=Hudson+-carpartsdiscount-carpartswholesale-discountbodyparts-carpartsdiscount&_sacat=&_trksid=p4506.m270.l1313&LH_SpecificSeller=2..kfking+wolverine-diesel+hugozhackenabush+partsandplates+cowboydave157+ppt+bodyshopsupplies+falconglobal++californiacarcover+pepinski9+covercentral+petes_auto_data+sandler_trust_wholesale+car-colors+johnnieeldorado+jim3284+rubberroadmaster+thet-shirtguy+pitts-n8063+crackleandpop-com+waljoy1+oldnewparts+creyts+vintageautoliterature+daytodayimports+covershield+pcs_connectors++carpartsdiscount+detroit-the-motor-city+carpartswholesale%2Cdiscountbodyparts&_sop=10&_dmd=1&_odkw=Packard+-carpartsdiscount-carpartswholesale-discountbodyparts-carpartsdiscount&_osacat=0
This eliminates the sellers who keep trying to sell this crap as OE replacement parts. I even went so far as to send them a message and ask just how exactly did their antenna's fir a 1900 Packard, when everyone knows that there were no car radios in 1900. Their reply? "If you have a question on the fitment of our parts please call 1-800-XXX-XXXX". Some people are really dense, and think that some idiot is going to buy their crap just because they say it will fit. Same with the guy who's been selling the turbo kits for Hudson's and Packard's, I asked him if it was a bolt on deal, and was told "it will require some fabrication". Well, then it's not a "factory fit" like your ad states then, is it? -

Ebay needs to clean up this sort of nonsense. Pages of antennas when they should be restricted to one advert for this sort of generic rubbish that could fit anything with wheels. What an idiot. It surprises me Ebay hasn't stamped this out already as it must be annoying many of their faithful customers who collectively probably buy more than this guy sells anyway. -
Ebay most likely won't do anything about it as the ads, as ridiculous as they are, is just more money for them.
You should see the Hupmobile pages, last time I looked there was something like 15 pages of nothing but these crap antenna's. I stopped looking anymore which is sad for the honest sellers. -
I think ebay will lose a lot of customers soon if they don't clean up this crap, I'm getting to the stage of not looking as much as I used to , and can't be bothered listing Hudson parts I have for sale, so they lose both ways as far as I'm concerned, and so do many car owners.
C'mon ebay clean this up for everybodies sake. -
We Tatra and Citroen folk have the same problem with this joker. I know of a nice warm, moist and dark place this joker can stick his "fits all applications" antennae!
-
I suggest you file complaints with eBay, as I have done:
- Open one of the offending offers;
- Go to the bottom. You'll see a link "Report this item", click on it;
- Select 'Listing Policy Violations, and
- "Other listing policy violations", and
- "Listing more than fifteen identical items"
Click the Continue button;
I don't bother looking up all the "Item Numbers", there are too many.
Under "Brief Description", I indicate that the seller has HUNDREDS of items identical to this one listed...
"Seller has 100s of this item listed, identical to this generic item. Circumvention of rules."
Only by a continual mass reporting of this will we be able to make eBay remove these offending sales. -
A concerted effort on our parts may 'sway' eBay into action(s) against this seller.
This means that EVERYONE on this forum with an eBay account needs to register a complaint, similiar to that outlined above.
This seller has over 500,000 items listed on eBay, for various generic automotive items. It need not be for antennas (over 37,000 of them listed), it can be for any other mass-marketed generic item that the seller is attempting to 'push'.
Take a few minutes & get this seller off of our backs! -
G'Day Rick,
Have lodged my complaint with ebay, got a return from them saying they will look into it, let's see eh.???
I see it this way, if we do not complain to ebay, then we can't complain about the adds being on, so, let's all get on the wagon and get this rubbish stopped for the good of our hobby. -
Complaint sent to Ebay.
Thanks Rick & Huddy42! -
I've made several violation reports just now. This vendor is a real pest. The more people that take the time to do so the better.
If every large vendor did this Ebay would turn into a spam junkyard. Surely they aren't that dumb?
It really decreases sales I'm sure. I try and avoid Ebay now if I can. -

Ew. Recycled SPAM parts. Wouldn't want that... I'll lodge my complaint... :eek:Workin Stiff -
Don't feel like the Lone Ranger on these sellers, (and there's more than one) all of us at Packardinfo are filing complaints as well.
-
Most "universal" parts are not so universal anyways. Lost count on how many times I've had to seriously modify "universal" parts to make them work. The other internet parts annoyance is when you do a search for parts and you get back returns like "find hudnreds of parts for your hudson" from parts sites that says "we only carry parts from 1985 and newer" on their front page. Why do they show up on returns then? To make you visit their site....and because the searches and sites get money from advertisers based on page clicks. So they want you to click on the site even if you only do it and find out it's not what you wanted to see.
-
The same thing applies to side mirrors advertised on ebay repeatedly as fitting '48-'54 Hudsons. I bought a pair, and there is no way they will fit. The angle is all wrong, and there is no way they will clamp on to the door. However all was not lost, as I was able to adapt it to make it fit the Essex, but it's still misleading advertising. If you're stuck in a hole, stop digging.

Complain to Ebay as I have they will get the message sooner or later if we all complain.
-
Thanks folks! The more complaints filed, the better chance we have of making an impact (and getting results) on this. I am going to make it a habit to file a complaint, every time I log into eBay - well, a minimum of once a day anyway.
It shouldn't be hard to find different items to complain about, these sellers have so many, it is unlikely that the same one will be chosen - LOL!

Here is a public complaint on this type of spam listing, posted on Ebay's community forum -

I added to my computer's favorite web sites list your method of searching eBay for Hudson parts and it really does eliminate most of the nonsense being sold under Hudson items. Thanks!
-
Made another report today to eBay about mass listings - it was down to about 2500 Hudson/Terraplane items listed, but that is still around 1600 too many...
-
Some of the listings I see for Hudson products on eBay don't even make sense. If it makes anyone feel better, when I typed in Hudson Antenna, the top listing (and ONLY correct listing) was for a 1948-1954 Hudson Roof Antenna.

Well, antenna guy seems to be as strong as ever with the multiple listings. A shame that everythings has to be about the almighty $.

Well - He is selling multiples (10+) in each of the auctions I have seen... The antenna guy is at it again.
Register more complaints with eBay, if you get the chance. Our previous efforts seemed to have had an effect for a little while, anyway.Workin Stiff
