1938 terraplane business coupe
-
Has anyone been building a street rod 38 Terraplane? I could use some ideas.
Robert Blake -
FYI
A few yrs ago I built a '37 Terraplane Hornet powered St Rod cpe with Turbo 350 trans and a narrowed Ford 9". (I installed all modern power Equipment, brakes, Steering, Tilt wheel, Seats, Windows, etc). I chose to install a Saturn power R&P to the straight axle with larger Hornet Brakes that worked out well;
Currently I am in the mock-up stage building a larger '37 Hudson cpe with some differences. Planning eliminating the front leaves then install Coil Over's onto the straight axle with Pridemore Discs,(because I bought for the Terraplane), eliminate the large hidable vent side window assy's with one large power window, Installing Windstar heat & A/C, etc. Narrowing another Ford 9", but all work in Progress among other things. If questions send me a pm.Hud 8 almost fini body 002_125859613248464.JPG632 x 474 - 77K -
Interesting project. How do you plan to locate the front axle, just use the original radius rods?

Over at hotrodders.com, there is a guy who is (or rather, was) working on a '38 Terraplane - he seems to have a fairly extensive project journal so you might be able to find some ideas in there (MII IFS, 350/700R4, some other stuff)

Nice projecty ol racer! I just love the grills on those Terraplanes. Wish I had my ol' '38 Dodge Coupe back, similar lines if my memory serves me.
We welded in a '63 Corvair Van IFS as that was back when the MII's were just coming out and I couldn't afford the kits and the required Mustang car parts. Ran a '63 Vette 327 and Powerglide. You just used heavier duty springs because of the higher weight.
