Ships and Castles

    Just for curiosity's sake,how did Hudson's "Ships and Castles"come to be? J.R.

    I can't exactly answer your question, but I'll surmise a guess as to origin.

    The "ships" portion was meant to represent outstanding engineering and the "castles" portion was meant to represent strength of the Hudson name.

    Most likely, the man-made symbols came as a result of the attributes Hudson wanted to portray. Probably one of the design men (or a secretary) first mentioned the "ships and castles" after a discussion about Hudson's outstanding features.

    Yeah Russell is basically correct. I think in one books I read the ships were "Hudson engineers adventurous and pioneering spirit." and the castles were "strength and stability of the organization." There's more than one take on what the white triangle represented. One was that is was the 3 principle founders of Hudson, and another was the of the core values of the car or the company. The triangle symbolism is a little less certain but it was on their cars from the beginning.



    The ship and castles maybe were on some of the pre-WW2 cars but more prominent on the post-war Hudson's.
