need help with turbo hd 400 install
-
I will try to make a long story short, hope someone can help. I have a 76 chevy caprice classic 454 --torque converter locked up and cracked the entire case. I got a used turbo 400 which looked identical (9" tail housing, etc...) The used tranny came out of an 87 suburban, supposedly. My dad and I rebuilt it anyway since we are restoring it. After installing it in the car, it was not holding in park, even before cranking. so we removed the pan to be sure the dial pin had not been jarred out of the parking paw and it was all in place but not locking. we removed the driveshaft and sure enough checking it again everything in tranny was working perfect and locking down in park. We finally realized that it was the slip yoke was too big and was notlocking into place in the output shaft and was just wallering not allowing it to catch the teeth. the code on the suburban tranny is: 87 LSA 5812
How do I go about asking someone what Slip yoke i need to replace on my drive shaft to make it work. Didn't they make more than one diameter size output shaft? I know they are all 32 spline Any advise would be very appreciated. Please feel free to email me: mrsdecourcey@yahoo.com.
Thanks so much! Misty
