    Hi All,

I need to get a new carburetor for my 1954 ford customline - its the inline 6 engine. The current one isn't original, but its leaking and not working well.

There is a white Holley label on top with this text:

    986298

    0670

    Reman by Holley

    64-3040

I've been googling and the 64-3040 number seems to bring up a lot of rebuild kits, but I can't find any new or remanufactured carbs?

Where's the best place to get one for the best price?

Is there another carb that will work better for the application?

    thanks!!!

I recently purchased a 54 Customline 4 dr w/ 223 I-6 and Ford-O-Matic and have gone throught the carb and performed a tune up. Look closely for a stamping near the fuel inlet fitting to find the original Holley id number. This will help you find the correct kit.

There is a site called the Carb Doctor that has a listing of every carb made by brand and has the numbers and vehicle use. Very informative. I just happened to have guessed at the correct kit for mine at the local Car Quest. My kit was P/N 296B.

Most of the Full Size Ford parts providers; i.e Dennis Carpenter, Larry's T-Bird, Mac's, et.al sell rebuild kits for 1952-67 223, 144, & 170 with Holley 1v; usually with the number _9590_ involved. Cost $30-$50.00.

    USA Parts Supply stocks a new replacement unit (P/N F9510RAG) for $189.50 with a $100 core deposit. This unit fits 1952-57 215, 223 I-6 w/ hand choke.

    Hope this helps.
