Spare generator question

My '50 Hudson Pacemaker Deluxe! has an Auto-Lite/Hudson generator and the manufacturer's plate has the letters and numbers stamped on it: GDZ 6001B. According to the "Automotive Electric Association" quick reference sheet I have for the '50 Pacemaker, the 6001B is the correct generator for this car. However, my spare generator is an Auto-Lite/Hudson stamped GCW 4801B. This one looks to be the same overall as the 6001B. Question is, will this generator, the 4801B, be OK to use as a replacement for the 6001B should the need arise? Thanks for any help here.

Dan, that 4801B is a '53 Hudson unit. It's rated at 40 amps output instead of 35 for the 6001B, which was used in '50- '52. It's compatible with your regulator for the 6001B; the only thing is that your regulator would limit the 4801B gen to 35 amps rather than its full capacity of 40. So, bottom line, it's fine as a spare.

Thanks for explaining the difference and also pointing out that the 4801B generator is still usuable on my 1950 Pacemaker Deluxe!
