1973 dodge dart sport
-
Hi I'm new here and I was just wondering if someone could help me. I own a 1973 Dodge Dart Sport with a slant 6 engine and I'm thinking about getting a new engine. My engine works fine but my cousin, who works on cars, has been trying to convince me to look for a 360 v8. What do you guys think I should do? Would I have to replace my transmission if I do get a new engine?

Schumacher Creative Industries offers engine mounts that allow you to swap in a V-8 into that car without having to change out the K-frame.
Yes, you will need a different trans for that 360 - the /6 and V-8 trans bellhousings are different. You will also need to swap out that weak 7-1/4" rear axle housing for a beefier (and considerably more expensive!) 8-3/4" assembly. That stock rear will not last behind a 360. Guaranteed, unless you want to drive like an 80-year old at 50 mph!
You will need a V-8 radiator, as well. For all of what is involved in a swap, you might consider simply finding you a complete V-8-powered '70-'76 A-body and be done with it, and sell the 225 Dart! I've owned nearly 25 of these cars."The time has come", the Walrus said, "to speak of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot,
And whether pigs have wings..."
